Phenol Coefficient Test
Test Objective:
To determine the effectiveness of SyDERMA® relative to phenol
to kill bacteria.
Test Method:
The standard test procedure described in the Official Methods of Analysis
of the Association of Official Analytical Chemistry International, 16th
Ed., Vol. 1, Locator 6.1.02, AOAC Official Method 955.12 Phenol Coefficient
Methods Testing was used to determine the phenol coefficient of SyDERMA..
This test procedure test both phenol and SyDERMA. against Staphylococcus
aureus (ATCC No. 6538).
Interpretation of Assay:
The phenol coefficient is the value obtained by dividing the highest dilution
of the test solution by the highest dilution of phenol that sterilizes
the given culture of bacteria under standard conditions of time and temperature.
Test Results:
SyDERMA®, when tested in accordance with standard testing procedures
was found to have a phenol coefficient of 5.26.

| At the 10-minute mark, SyDERMA®
exhibited no bacterial growth at a dilution of 1 to 500. Phenol
exhibited the same no bacterial growth characteristic at the
10-minute mark at a dilution of 1 to 95. A dilution of 1 part
SyDERMA® in 500 parts of dilution has the same
sterilizing characteristics as phenol at a dilution of 1 to
95. Therefore, the phenol coefficient of SyDERMA®
is 500÷95=5.26. |
